England Announces 17-Member Squad for Pakistan Test Series in October

The England cricket team has officially announced their 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan, set to take place in October 2024. The tour is expected to be a crucial one, especially given the subcontinent’s spin-friendly conditions that could play a significant role.

One of the key highlights is the potential Test debut of Durham’s Brydon Carse and Essex’s Jordan Cox, who have been named in the squad for the first time.

Spin bowlers Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach make their return to the squad. Their inclusion will be crucial for England’s strategy, as spin is expected to be a determining factor in Pakistan’s conditions.

Eight players who were part of England’s historic 3-0 Test series win in Pakistan in 2022, including Rehan Ahmed, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and captain Ben Stokes, have been retained. Their experience in Pakistan’s playing conditions could prove to be a decisive advantage for England.

Jack Leach, who has been out of the game since January 2024, makes a comeback. Meanwhile, Rehan Ahmed is eager to add to his four Test caps, having made his Test debut in Pakistan last year.

Durham’s fast bowler Josh Hull, who recently made his debut at Kia Oval, has been selected for his first senior England tour.

Captain Ben Stokes, who missed the recent Test series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury, is also part of the squad. His leadership and all-round abilities will be pivotal as England looks to maintain its recent success.
